How to Book a Walt Disney World Trip?

disney-world-planning-grand-floridian

New Walt Disney World Reservation System

There are many changes coming to Walt Disney World in 2020 and 2021 due to the outbreak of Covid-19. We break down everything you need to know while booking your next Disney world trip.

If you would like to know about the availability of attractions, entertainment, and dining locations of each theme park, jump straight to the bottom of this page.

New Disney Safety Measures

To enter Walt Disney World theme parks, guests must have:

  1. A theme park reservations system - made via the new Disney Park Pass system ( we'll cover this shortly) - along with a valid park admission for the same park on the same day.
  2. Face coverings - each guest ages 2 and up must wear a face covering in all public areas, except while eating.
  3. Cashless transactions wherever possible

Reservations for Disney Park Entry

All Walt Disney World theme parks now require a reservation through the Disney Park Pass system for entry on a specific day. To enter a park both a park reservation AND a valid Walt Disney World admission ticket for the same park on the same day are required for each person ages 3 and up.

For the time being there will be a limit to one park per day, and all Park Hopper tickets have been suspended. This is mainly so Disney can manage park attendance due to the new reopen Florida guidelines.

Guests planning to visit Walt Disney World will be required to make this reservation in advance for each park entry, and if you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your stay.

Disney-Park-Pass-System

Disney Park Pass System

The Disney park pass system is only open to guests with valid admission tickets. The number of Disney Park Pass reservation days you can hold at one time depends on your vacation stay:

  • Disney Resort and other select hotel guests with valid theme park admission can make reservations for their length of stay.
  • Annual Passholders can make theme park reservations for up to 3 days at a time or for their length of stay if staying at a Disney Resort or other select hotels.
  • Existing ticket holders can make reservations for the number of days of valid theme park admission.

Park reservations will be available through September 26th 2021, based on your resort stay and ticket eligibility or ticket eligibility window.

If you booked a vacation package, your ticket eligibility is tied to your package travel dates. To make a park reservation for a different date, be sure to modify your vacation package dates.

What happens if I want to book a new vacation?

You can purchase new Disney Resort hotel packages, purchase new theme park tickets and make park reservations for arrivals starting in 2021 as phased reopening continues. Guests will be able to view park reservation availability online prior to purchasing tickets.

Later this summer, Disney will resume sales of 2020 tickets and Disney Resort hotel arrivals, based on availability of park reservations, while they continue to provide Guests with existing tickets and Annual Passholders the opportunity to make park reservations for 2020 dates.

How Does Disney Park Pass System Work?

Step 1: Confirm Your Admission Is Linked to Your Disney Account

Step 2: Create Your Party

Step 3: Select a Date and Park.

Step 4: Review and Confirm Your Plans

Annual Passes During Phased Reopening

As the Walt Disney World theme parks prepare to reopen, we see a lot of Passholder enthusiasm to get back to the magic! It is clear that Park reservations will change the way that many of Passholders prefer to enjoy their pass, so here are a couple of things you may want to take keep in mind:

  • During the limited capacity period, it may be difficult for Annual Passholders to get park reservations to visit on certain dates.
  • Some pass benefits and features will not be available during periods of limited capacity. Also, park experiences and offerings will be modified and subject to limited availability or even closure.
  • All Annual Passholders are eligible to make theme park reservations for up to 3 days at a time, or Annual Passholders staying at select Disney Resort or other select hotels with valid theme park admission are eligible to make theme park reservations for each day of their stay(s). Once you use a theme park reservation, you can make another reservation for a future date.
  • Guests should ensure their pass type is valid for park entry prior to making a park reservation. To enter one of the parks, each Passholder is required to have a theme park reservation in addition to a valid annual pass.

New Health Measures at Walt Disney World

Temperature Screenings

During the initial reopening period, guests will undergo a temperature screening prior to park entry. Based on guidance from health authorities, anyone displaying a temperature of 100.4 or above will be directed to an additional location for screening and assistance. Those with temperatures of 100.4 or above will not be allowed entry; those in their party will not be allowed entry either.

Physical Distancing at Disney World

Disney has made some temporary adjustments that include limited-contact guest services to promote a responsible and enjoyable environment for everyone. These include:

  • Physical Barriers: Physical barriers have been added in select places where it is difficult to maintain strict physical distancing guidelines.
  • Signage: Directional signage has been installed to assist guests to responsibly move throughout the property. Additionally, ground markings will help promote proper physical distancing when queuing is needed at a location.
  • Cashless Transactions: At this time, it is recommended all guests use cashless payment options, including debit cards, credit cards, and Disney gift cards. Guests can also opt for contact less payment options such as mobile wallets, or use cash to purchase Disney gift cards at guest relations and select merchandise locations. Disney resort guests can also use their MagicBands to charge throughout Disney property.
  • Mobile Ordering: A feature of the My Disney experience app, mobile order service enables you to order ahead and save time at select dining locations.

Enhanced Cleaning at Disney World

Walt Disney World has also increased its cleaning in high traffic areas such as public elevators and escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms, and more. Additionally, guests will find open hand sanitizer and hand-washing stations throughout Walt Disney World.

Disney World Vacation Planned Steps

Step #1 Booking Disney World Tickets and Hotel Accommodations

  • Walt Disney World vacation is deciding how long you want to go for. Luckily you can use our Walt Disney World Crowd Calendar   to avoid the large crowds and save money on your next trip
  • The next step is deciding if you would like to stay on Disney property or off site at one of the neighboring Orlando hotels. If booking within the US, it might make sense to book your hotel and Disney World tickets separately, especially if you are staying offsite.

Step #2 Download the My Disney Experience App

Ah, the most magical app on earth! Immediately after booking your Disney vacation, you’ll want to download this app faster than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

This will allow you to link your new Walt Disney World reservation numbers to your account. Without doing this, you will not be able to book fastpasses or dining reservations.

To link your reservations download the app or go to Disneyworld.com , create an account and add your reservation number.

Once you create an account using your email address, you’ll be able to:

Book your FastPass+ reservations

UPDATE: Walt Disney World Fastpasses are temporarily on hold as Disney manages it's new reservation system. FastPass+ allows guests to make attraction reservations in advance! Guests can make up to 3 selections in any given day. The best part is, it is completely free with the purchase of your Walt Disney World theme park ticket. We will review which attraction accept Fastpass+ later on in this post!

Order your free magic bands

Available to order at no additional charge (for a standard color) through the My Disney Experience app, your MagicBand is your lifeline while vacationing at WDW. And there’s a reason they’re called “Magic Bands.” These colorful snap-on bands are...well, truly magical. They're your: - Walletless credit card - Hotel room key - Park tickets - FastPass+ activators - In-park photo album

Make Disney Dining Reservations

**Update: The new Walt Disney World dining window is now 60 days! Through the My Disney Experience app, you can also book all of your WDW dining reservations in advance. This is essential to keeping your plans on track, as many restaurants fill up quickly since so many families with young children are on similar schedules. This is especially true for character dining. It's important to note you will only need to book table service restaurants i.e sit down meals. However these reservations do go quick so make sure you book your table in advance, you won’t regret it!

View ride and character meet and greet wait times for all four of Disney’s theme parks

Don't walk to the other side of the park only to find out the ride you want to go on has a 90 minute wait, or worse...is closed! View ride and character meet and greet wait times from your phone to help plan your day!

Locate rides and character meet and greets with digital maps of every park

Walt Disney World Parks can be very confusing for visitors. The My Disney Experience App is like having GPS right in the palm of your hands!

Place mobile food orders

Guests can now preorder their meals at select dining locations throughout Walt Disney World. The app will allow guests to customize their orders and pre-pay, but the meal will not be prepared until the guest arrives and taps “I’m Here, Prepare My Order” on their mobile app. The app will then notify the guest when their meal is ready for pick up.

Unlock your Disney hotel room

Locked out of your hotel room? No worries, simply open up the My Disney Experience App and hold your phone against the electronic key pad.

Step#3: Book Your Restaurants

60 days before your trip, you can book your dining reservations. This is very important as many of the restaurants will be operating under reduced capacity for the foreseeable future. You only need to book table service restaurants i.e. sit down meals, quick service restaurants which are counter service do not need to be booked in advance. Reservations open at 6am EST.
