All of the hotels noted above do have flexible cancelation policies. However, it is essential to note that each hotel will have a different cancelation date and amount based on the hotel and length of stay. Look for the “cancelation policy” below each hotel description.
It’s also important to note that there are some significant differences when booking your hotel room and tickets separately for your next theme park vacation. From our experience helping our clients, the biggest difference is going to be the deposit amount and also the cancelation policies. When guests book their discount hotel and theme park tickets separately both will have to be paid in full at the time of booking. This is different from official Universal vacation packages and Disney vacation packages, which allow guests to book trips more than 45 days out with just a deposit. These deposit amounts will be $50 per person for Universal packages and $200 per room for Disney packages. It is, of course, important to note that both Universal and Disney packages do have to be paid in full before your travel dates.
Guests must also consider the cancelation policies when deciding if they should book an official Universal or Disney package vs. your hotel and tickets separately. Both Universal and Disney have very flexible cancellation policies when you bundle your hotel and tickets through them. However, we find that although many hotels do have flexible cancelation policies guests will not have the same flexibility with theme park tickets which are non-refundable. However, guests can always move the start date of their theme park tickets to another date.
In our opinion, one of the biggest benefits of booking one of the non-official Disney or Universal hotels is how affordable these accommodations can be. They are extremely budget-friendly and many times families can find great deals throughout the year. We also find that many of these hotels will offer added benefits such as free transportation to the theme parks, free parking, and discounted breakfast options.
It’s worth mentioning that hotels classified as Disney’s Friendly Neighbor properties also provide early park entry to the Disney World theme parks, enhancing your vacation experience. And for the hotels which fall under the Friendly Neighbor Deluxe properties will also receive extended evening hours at select Disney parks.
On the flip side, one of the most important things to keep in mind is although many of these hotels are budget-friendly, most on this list will not offer the same added theme park benefits that come from staying at an official Disney or Universal Orlando hotel. These hotels will also not have the same immersive theming that many families have come to love about the official Disney World and Universal hotels. It’s also important to note that these hotels will be further away from the theme parks when compared to the official on-site resorts. And although this might not be a huge deal for some families, the free transportation at many of these hotels does not run consistently throughout the day when compared to the official Disney and Universal hotels.
And last but not least one of the most important things to consider when booking an off-site Disney or Universal hotel is the cancelation policy. Although many of the hotels will provide flexible cancelation policies this might not be the same case for the tickets as it’s not an official Disney World and Universal vacation package which have the most flexible cancellation policies for both hotel and ticket packages.
From our experience there is always added benefits from staying at an official Disney or Universal Orlando hotel that can enhance your vacation experience. These hotels are located on the respective properties, providing close proximity to theme parks, water parks, and other attractions, which means less time spent commuting and more time enjoying the parks.
Additionally, official hotels provide free and convenient transportation options such as shuttle buses, monorails, or ferry boats, making it easy to access the theme parks. Guests can also take advantage of exclusive theme park benefits, including early park admission and booking individual lightning lanes in advance. Furthermore, official Universal and Disney hotels are designed with immersive theming, reflecting the unique stories of the Disney and Universal parks, providing a truly magical experience that extends beyond your time in the parks themselves.
One of our favorite things that we love about the Universal Orlando value resorts compared to the Disney World value resorts is that pricing starts at $99.00 per night. However, it’s important to note that this might not be as competitive as some of the discount off-site hotels on this list. With that being said, we also love the room options at both the Endless Summer Dockside and Endless Summer Surfside Inn which include very affordable 2-BR suites which can fit up to 6 guests. These can be great options for larger families looking to take advantage of some cheap Universal Orlando packages.
The Universal Premier Resorts are also the perfect hotels for families looking for the nicest accommodations and amenities possible while not waiting on any lines while in the Universal theme parks. The main reason is that all guests who stay at the Universal Premier Resorts will receive Free Express Passes for their stay! On top of that these hotels also have the nicest pools, restaurants, and spas on Universal property, and all of them are within walking distance to the two main theme parks!
From our experience, Disney World resorts offer the most immersive theming when it comes to hotel rooms in Orlando. All official Disney World hotels offer added benefits such as early morning entry and free on-site transportation. We also find them to have the most convenient transportation options with some of them being connected to the Disney World monorail and many others being within walking distance to the parks. On top of that the Disney deluxe resorts have some of our favorite pools and added amenities on the property. And of course, we can’t forget the best restaurants and bars on Disney property as well!
