We are going to start with the most common question: How do we get on Star Wars Rise of the Resistance? As of this time, the only ways to ride Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is through the regular standby queue, the individual lightning lane upgrade, or on a private VIP experience. It is, of course, important to note that the regular standby line is included with your Disney World admission, the individual lightning lane costs around $25 per person at this point in time, and the VIP experience does cost around $800 per hour. And we do find there is a way to take advantage of very low wait times for this ride no matter which option your family chooses to go with.
As of 2021 Disney is no longer running a virtual queue system for Rise of the Resistance, and at this point in time, the easiest way to get on this ride is to use the regular standby queue during normal operating hours. It’s also important to note that guests staying at a Disney World hotel receive early entry into Hollywood Studios which would allow them to hop on the line for Rise of the Resistance before other park guests. For this reason, you will see we typically always recommend possibly coming back to the regular standby line later in the day if you’re not staying at one of the hotels, as the wait time will typically fluctuate from 95 minutes around 9:00 AM down to 65 minutes between 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
As discussed, another way to get onto this ride is by upgrading and using the individual lightning lane experience, which would allow you to pick a time to come back and skip the regular line. However, it’s important to understand that Disney World resort guests also have an advantage here as Disney releases Rise of the Resistance lightning lane selections to on-site resort guests at 7:00 AM and then for regular park guests at park opening. Rise of the Resistance lightning lane selections can also sell out, so you do take that risk if trying to grab one after the park opening. However, if you don’t plan to rope drop Hollywood Studios and don’t mind spending the additional $25 per person, we do find this to be a great way to get on this ride very quickly.
Another way to get onto Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is to upgrade your day to include the Disney World VIP Experience. From our experience, this is not going to be for most families as it does cost around $800 per hour; however, on the flip side, we do find this to be one of the quickest ways to get onto this ride any time of the day with very few restrictions.

Now that we have covered the different ways to ride Rise of the Resistance, you might be wondering, what is the fastest way to ride Rise of the Resistance? As a general rule of thumb, the quickest way to ride Rise of the Resistance will almost always be to stay at a Disney World hotel and rope drop during the extra half hour in the morning or to use the individual lightning lanes, if coming back to ride anytime after 9:00 AM. And for guests who do not want to rope drop or take advantage of the individual lightning lane, we would suggest getting on this line anytime after 6:00 PM at night.

Another very popular question we receive on this topic is, should you use Genie plus Rise of the Resistance? As a general rule of thumb, we do find the individual lightning lane for Rise of the Resistance to be worth it if you are trying to get onto this ride anytime after 9:00 AM. The main reason is that guests will save 60-90 minutes on average by upgrading to the Rise of the Resistance Genie+. Not only that, but the individual lightning lane will also provide guests the opportunity to select their desired return time, which we believe gives families a ton of flexibility when trying to plan a great day in the parks.

As a general rule of thumb, we do find Star Wars Rise of the Resistance to be worth a 2-hour wait especially if you are a Star Wars fan. Yes, there is a virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, but it is exclusively available during the special event known as Disney Jollywood Nights. This event is a separate-ticket occasion happening on select nights during the holiday season. For guests attending Disney Jollywood Nights, access to the Rise of the Resistance attraction is managed through a virtual queue, which can be accessed using the My Disney Experience app. It’s important to note that there will be no standby queue available for this attraction during the event. Guests can join this virtual queue once per event night, starting at 8:00 PM.
To be eligible to join the virtual queue, guests must have their specific event tickets linked to their My Disney Experience account. Notably, guests do not need to be physically present inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios when they request to join the virtual queue. This virtual queue system is only operational on the day a guest attends the event.
There are no tickets to just the Star Wars Rise of the Resistance attraction. You will need to purchase a Walt Disney World ticket which allows you access to Hollywood Studios.
