How To Ride Hagrid’s Motorbike Overview

Before we get into how to ride Hagrid’s, let’s talk about the basics of the ride, like the amazing details, where it is located and more. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter debuted in Islands of Adventure park, opening Hogsmeade Village in 2010. Since then, the franchise has expanded extensively throughout Universal Orlando, adding another land, Diagon Alley, Universal Studios and two more attractions, which includes Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure. Currently there are three ways to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Orlando.

How to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure?

• Use your early park admission
• Grab a spot on the Hagrid’s virtual que line when available
• Wait on the standby line when available
• Use the Hagrid’s single rider line when available

We cannot stress enough how awesome Hagrid’s at Universal Orlando is, as it is a mix of a rollercoaster and storytelling dark ride. During this ride, you fly deep through the Forbidden Forest in Hagrid’s iconic motorbike, looking for the rarest magical creatures. With the Hogwarts castle as a backdrop throughout the queue, you really feel immersed into the Wizarding World as you soar through the forest. We don’t want to spoil all of the surprises, but there are many new technologies used in this ride to make it unlike any other. We also love that it is included within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and guests can take advantage of it as soon as the parks open using  early park admission! 

What is the best way to ride Hagrid’s?

One of the biggest issues with Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is figuring out the best way to ride it! Each day changes on how Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure operates from a Hagrid ride virtual line, to a stand-by and even Universal’s Express Pass. Typically, the easiest way to ride Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is too look for the stand-by time wait and head to the attraction. But, sometimes the stand-by is unavailable or the wait time is over two hours. At any given time, the line for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure typically has about an hour to two hour wait during peak season. So, let’s talk about other ways you can ride this attraction and avoid the Orlando crowds. 

Can you skip the line at Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure?

The only way to officially skip the line at Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is by upgrading your ticket to the Universal Orlando VIP experience. The main reason is even when Universal Orlando has the Hagrid’s virtual line and single rider line open you will still have to wait on a line eventually. And as we will discuss shortly there is no express pass for Hagrids. So the only real way to avoid waiting on this line is with one of the Universal Orlando VIP tours. It’s also important to note that with the private Universal Orlando VIP tour guests can enjoy Hagrid’s as many times at they would like with absolutely no wait!

Does Hagrid close early?

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure does not close early to park guests. So another great way to get on this ride with very little wait when the Hagrid’s virtual line is down is to wait until a few minutes before the park closes and go get on line for Hagrid’s. The main reason is you are allowed to enter a line right up until the park closes and by that time many families would have already gone back to their hotel which will result in a lower wait.

When is the best time of day to ride Hagrid’s?

From our personal experience we find that the best time to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures motorbike adventure is first thing in the morning during early park admission or the last ride of the night. With the reason being that wait times can reach well over two hours during the later morning and early afternoon hours. So as you can see having the correct game plan can save you a tremendous amount of time.

Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure Early Admission

One of the best ways to take advantage of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure with little wait is to use Universal Orlando Early Admission. Early Admission allows guests to enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure. So that means when Universal has Islands of Adventure open for these early hours guests can ride Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure before regular guests even enter the park. Not to mention that guests can hop over to the Jurassic Park section of the park to go on the VelociCoaster right after!

How to use Early Park Admission for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure

Getting into the park before regular admission guests will give you a one up on entering the line for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure first. We always recomend to arrive one hour before early park admission even starts and you’ll see there may be a line queuing system set up to get guests into a line to be ready once the ride officially opens. Early Park Admission allows you to be one of the first guest in line and possibly ride an attraction right after! We highly recommend using this technique to get on Hagrid’s.

2023 Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure Virtual Queue

The Universal Virtual Queue has been a newer system that team members use to help lessen wait times for popular attractions. The virtual line system at Universal Hagrid’s has been very popular, and what we’ve seen as the most popular way guests experience the attraction at peak times. The one important thing that we must discuss when looking at the Hagrid’s virtual line is that Universal will only have this system in place during the peak times of year. And we actually have not seen the virtual queues used at Universal Orlando in a few months.

However when Universal does have the system operational  we find that using the virtual queue for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is very easy to use, and typically has no wait for the attraction once you’re scanned in. The purpose of the Hagrid ride virtual line is to allow you to have freedom to enjoy other portions of the park while you wait. What isn’t there to love?

How to use Hagrid’s Motorbike Virtual Line?

First and foremost, if you’re unsure how to use the Universal Virtual Lines, we’ve written a whole article to help you through the process! It would be a good idea to get a refresher, because while simple, it can be easy to miss one of the steps and lose a virtual line for Hagrid’s ride.

• Make sure you have the Universal Orlando app downloaded
• Check to see if there is a virtual line for Hagrid ride
• Select how many people in your party, then choose an available time slot or return time!
• A QR code will be created, or a confirmation screen will show your ride pass

Pro tip! Make sure to check for Hagrid’s virtual line passes right away at park open. If you miss the first round of them Universal Orlando states that throughout the day they will release more Hagrid’s virtual line passes and to check at 11am, 2pm and 4pm. It is important to note that if Universal decides to run virtual lines all day for Hagrid’s, you cannot ride unless you have a virtual line for Hagrid ride.

Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure Express Pass

Another popular question we receive is, is there express pass for Hagrid? And no, there is no Express Pass for Hagrid’s and it is a part of a very short list of attractions that do not participate in Express Pass. The Universal Express Pass allows for guests to skip regular stand-by lines and use an Express Pass line to bypass waits. You can purchase this add-on option to any of your Universal ticket types, for either $80 for Universal Express pass, or $110 for the Universal Express pass Unlimited. On busier days in the parks, we recommend in lieu of Express Pass for Hagrid, try using the Universal Orlando virtual queue for Hagrid’s if available or always take advantage of early park admission for the lowest waits.

Does the express pass work on Hagrid’s?

No, unfortunately, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is not included on the Universal Express Pass.

When will Hagrid’s get Express Passes?

Another very popular question that we have been receiving is, when will Hagrid’s get Express Passes? As of now, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure still does not offer Express Pass access. For this reason we still always recomend to visit Hagrid’s first thing in the morning during early park admission if you are trying to take advantage of the lowest wait times possible. And of course stay up to date on all of the latest news as Universal recently announced that the VelociCoaster will be added to the Universal Express Pass.

Hagrid’s Single Rider Line at Universal Orlando

Another popular question we receive is, does Hagrid’s have single rider lines? And, yes Hagrid’s does have a single rider line but just like the Hagrid’s virtual line system there is no guarantee that Universal will be running the single rider line. In fact Universal will open the Hagrid’s single rider line throughout the day based on how busy the ride is and how long the wait times are. However on the flip side if the single rider line for Hagrid’s is open we do find it to be a great way to avoid the longer standby line and save some time. The only downside would be that your entire group would not be able to sit together, however that might not be a big deal for some families and others might only have one guest in their party who wants to ride anyway.

Is single rider line faster for Hagrid’s?

As a general rule of thumb, the Hagrid’s single rider line is faster than the regular standby line. The main reason is it does not allow your entire group to go on the ride together and Universal is quickly filling empty seats on the attraction with single riders.
