Lightning Lane Premier Pass vs. Multi Pass

This article is your complete guide to the Disney World Lightning Lane Premier Pass vs. Multi-Pass! As a general rule of thumb, it comes down to flexibility as the Premier Pass allows you to enter any Lightning Lane queue to skip the line without needing a reservation. This is different from the Multi-Pass, which allows you to book specific time slots for attractions, and generally, guests are only allowed to hold three reservations at once. However, the biggest difference would be the price as you are definitely paying for the flexibility that comes with the Premier, as the average price for a Magic Kingdom Premier pass in 2025 has been $392 per person however this does include the Lightning Lane single passes which are not included with a Multi-Pass that has an average price of $31.48 at Magic Kingdom. Another huge difference to consider is that rides can sell out under the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass while they cannot for the Premier Pass.

It’s also important to note that there are Lightning Lane single passes, which allow you to purchase and skip the lines at one or two specific rides within each park.

Disney World Lightning Lane Multi-Pass vs. Premier Pass

what-is-the-best-age-to-go-to-disney-world

Let’s start this guide with the most popular question we receive, which is what is the difference between Multi-Pass and Premier Pass at Disney World? On the surface, both Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Premier Pass are add-on products that allow guests to skip the regular standby lines on certain attractions. However, there are some major differences as Multi-Pass allows guests to make advanced reservations for up to three rides in advance, while Premier Pass does not require any advanced reservations and includes all of the single-pass rides (also referred to as ‘single passes’ or ‘lightning lane single passes’). With the Multi-Pass it is possible for certain rides to sell out even after you purchase it while the Premier Pass can sell out altogether. Premier Passes are available in limited quantities and can sell out quickly. Please note that purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass or Premier Pass does not include park admission, which must be purchased separately.

And as we discussed above, there are some major price differences as the Lightning Lane Premier pass can be over 10x more than the Multi-Pass. Not only can the Premier Pass be significantly more but it also would not allow you to park hop, as it is valid for a single park only. On the flip side, the Multi-Pass would allow you to make additional ride reservations at a different park once you scan into the first ride. When using the Premier Pass, you receive one time access per attraction per day.

There are a few ways in which the Multi-Pass and Premier Pass are similar with the date you can book being one of them. Both are available to be purchased seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel and three days before for off-site guests.

Biggest Differences Between Multi-Pass and Premier Pass

Multi-Pass:

  • Need to book your first 3 rides in advance, and certain rides can sell out at certain times of the day, even though you purchased a Multi-Pass for a specific park. It’s important to book Lightning Lanes as early as possible to secure access to the most popular attractions.
  • After you use the first one, or 2 hours pass, you can book another.
  • You keep repeating this throughout the day, and with strategic planning, the Multi-Pass system allows you to experience many rides, maximizing your time in the park. Availability can be limited, so planning ahead is key.
  • Once you scan into your first ride you can make a reservation at another park if you have a park hopperticket.
  • High-demand rides can sell out and may be gone by 9 AM. To increase your chances, consider using early entry or rope drop strategies to fit in two rides or more before the crowds build.

Premier Pass:

  • Buy it. Show up to the ride.
  • Enter through the Lightning Lane—no reservations or time slots needed.
  • Premier Passes (also known as Lightning Lane Premier Passes) offer the highest level of convenience and flexibility for guests seeking a premium experience.
  • Premier Passes can sell out; however, if you are able to purchase a pass for a certain day, the rides cannot sell out for you.
  • With Premier Passes, you can enjoy shorter lines throughout the day on most rides, making it easier to maximize your time in the park.
  • Use it once per ride, per day, including the Single Pass rides.
  • No need to micromanage anything.

Price Difference Between Multi-Pass vs. Premier Pass

Avg Price Animal Kingdom EPCOT Hollywood Studios Magic Kingdom
Multi-Pass $18 $21 $26 $29
Premier Pass $129 $169 $269
$329

And don’t forget—Premier Pass includes rides you’d normally have to pay extra for via Lightning Lane Single Pass, like:

  • TRON Lightcycle / Run
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
  • Space Mountain

Is Disney World’s Multi-Pass or Premier Pass Better?

Criteria Multi-Pass Premier Pass
Budget-Friendly Yes No
Includes Premium Rides No Yes
Requires Planning Yes No
Best for Spontaneous Visitors No Yes
One-Time Purchase Simplicity No Yes
Park Hopper Flexibility Yes (start in 1 park) No
Pass Can Sell Out During Pre-Purchase Yes Yes
Rides Can Sell Out After Purchasing? Yes No

When it comes to total ride access, Premier Pass takes the win.

  • Premier Pass covers every ride with a Lightning Lane—including those that require a Single Pass. No pass restricts you to a single ride; all attractions are still accessible via the standby line or, for some new rides, through a virtual queue.
  • Multi Pass covers most attractions but excludes Single Pass rides (some of the most popular ones). This option requires more planning before and during your trip.

So if your goal is to ride everything—especially the rides with the highest wait times or new rides—we find that Premier Pass might be the better option. Remember, your choice of pass can impact your next visit or next trip, especially if you want to prioritize new attractions or minimize wait times.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

As always, there is not always a one-size-fits-all all so we have included the following follow up questions which should help you decide for your family. Let’s recap with some key questions:

1. What’s Your Budget?

If you’re visiting solo or with a small group and want ultimate freedom, the Premier Pass is an incredible splurge. But if you’re with a family of five, that adds up fast. So for families who are visiting Walt Disney World for multiple days, we find that the Multi-Pass is way more budget-friendly, even if it comes with extra planning.

2. How Do You Like to Travel?

Are you a planner who likes to build a park itinerary? Go for Multi Pass.

Prefer to wander, snack, and go where the day takes you? Premier Pass is your match.

3. How Important Are The Big Rides?

Want to hit TRON, Rise of the Resistance, or Cosmic Rewind without buying extra passes? Premier is the only all-in-one ticket. Keep in mind, some new rides may require joining a virtual queue or using the standby line, regardless of your pass.

4. One Park or Multiple Parks?

If you’re park hopping, Premier offers smoother flexibility. No restrictions after your first ride. Multi Pass requires you to start in one park and then transfer.

5. Are You Staying at Select Hotels or Disney Resort Hotels?

Guests staying at select hotels, including Disney Resort hotels, may have early access to purchase passes—sometimes up to 7 days in advance. This can be a big advantage when planning your next trip or next visit, especially for high-demand dates or new rides.
