Complete Guide to Universal Orlando Harry Potter Wands
As discussed above, Universal Orlando has two different types of Wands, which are the regular Universal Orlando wand and the interactive wand. In our opinion, we always recommend upgrading and going with the interactive wand as they come with a special reflector tip that interacts with sensors located around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, allowing guests to cast spells. As you’ll see this could be a great way to take advantage of early park admission, which is specifically included in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
These wands also come with an Ollivanders wand chart and a map of spellcasting spots, enhancing the magical experience. Non-interactive wands at Universal, on the other hand, are modeled after Harry Potter character wands but do not perform magic.
NEW Second Generation Harry Potter Wands
The new interactive wands at Universal Orlando Resort are a second generation of wands that were released on March 1, 2025. A brand new second-generation fully interactive wand costs about $85. This is more expensive than the standard interactive wands (starting at $65) and the non-interactive original wands ($55).
These wands have several new features compared to the original interactive wands:
They feature illumination and haptic vibration effects. When spells are cast correctly, the wand tip lights up and the wand vibrates.
They have app connectivity through the Universal Orlando Resort app, which enhances the immersive experience. This allows users to create a Wizarding Profile by choosing a name, avatar, Patronus, and Hogwarts House. These choices can impact app features and interactions.
The app includes a Universal Play feature where guests can use their wands to navigate the Wizarding World, track spell locations with an interactive map, discover hidden spells, and embark on thrilling adventures.
Users can track their score and house points within the app and see how their house ranks in the House Cup competition, which is awarded daily.
The app’s “Collections” tab allows guests to track their adventures, completed spells, and discovered beasts.
The wands are battery-powered and use quadruple A batteries, which can be replaced. There is a divot at the base of the wand that allows for battery replacement.
The new wands come in a fancy black box with a new Wizarding World tag. Inside the box, there is a map with spell locations in Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. This map has been updated to include the Ministry of Magic, offering a first look at the new Harry Potter land at Epic Universe.
There are currently four unique wand designs, named after their wood types: Silver Lime, Redwood, Pine, and Spruce. The team members at the stores can identify the specific wand by a barcode, but customers will only know which wand they have upon opening the box.
Collector & Display Wand Sets
For guests who want something more presentation-worthy than a single wand, Ollivanders still carries multi-wand collector sets, generally priced well above single wands:
Weasley Wand Collection — two replica wands with a display rack
Triwizard Champions Wand Collection — four wands in a glass display case
Dumbledore’s Army Wand Collection — a themed set with a display parchment
These are priced as premium keepsakes rather than in-park tools, so budget accordingly if a set is what you’re after.
Special Universal Orlando wand tip and trick!
Guests who purchase a $300 or $500 Universal Orlando gift card will receive a free interactive wand. These are limited-time offerings, so it’s not guaranteed that Universal will still have this promotion; however, it’s always a great idea to ask once you arrive in the parks! We have found this to be a great way to save on your Universal Orlando vacation while grabbing a wand to take home.

Luckily, Universal Orlando Harry Potter wands can be found at both Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley and Epic Universe Ministry of Magic! That’s right, you can find Harry Potter wands in Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, and Epic Universe. This is different from the books where Ollivanders wand shops is only located in Diagon Alley, however, this gives guests more opportunities to enjoy this interactive experience no matter which park they are spending their day at. We also have found that the carts located in each section of Harry Potter World will typically have the lowest wait times. But of course, this doesn’t provide the ambiance that would come from buying your wand inside one of the shops.
Wizarding World of Harry Potter wand locations:
Ollivanders in Hogsmeade
Wand cart on the path to Hogwarts
Ollivanders in Diagon Alley
Wands by Gregorovitch in Diagon Alley
Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique (Epic Universe)
If you want to be head of the game for your trip, you can also purchase interactive wands online at Universal Orlando Shop.
Casting spells around the Wizarding World is simple once you know the pattern:
Find a spell-casting location — look for a brass medallion embedded in the ground or pathway
Stand on or in front of the marked spot
Perform the correct wand movement for that location (cast members and posted signage will walk you through it if you’re stuck)
If a cast member or sign tells you a location is “jinxed,” that just means the effect is temporarily down — move on to the next spot and try again later.
Interactive Wand Spell Locations by Park
Here’s where you can put your wand to work across all three parks.
Diagon Alley has the largest concentration of spell locations, including favorites like Pilliwinkle’s Playthings (dancing trolls), Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes (a prank-themed spell), the Mermaid Fountain, and Scribbulus (levitate a quill). Knockturn Alley adds a moodier set of effects, including a storm-control spell over Knockturn Alley’s sky and a Patronus-casting experience tied to the app.
Islands of Adventure (Hogsmeade)
Hogsmeade’s spell spots include Zonko’s Joke Shop, Honeydukes (open a chocolate frog box), Dervish and Banges (start and stop a music box), and Spintwitches (levitate Quidditch balls). The Dueling Club area and Owl Post also feature newer, second-generation-only spells involving reviving a dummy and freezing pixies mid-flight.
Epic Universe (Place Cachée / Ministry of Magic)
Epic Universe’s Ministry of Magic land has its own set of spell-casting locations tied to the Fantastic Beasts films, giving guests a fresh set of effects to discover that aren’t available anywhere else in the resort. Because this land opened alongside second-generation wands, it’s worth bringing (or buying) a second-gen wand if you want the fullest experience here.
Universal designed a selection of 13 types of wands in Harry Potter World loosely based on the Celtic tree calendar that J.K Rowling used to determine which wood would be used based off periods and attributes. Ollivanders wand shop custom wands can be based on this Harry Potter wand chart.

Wands at Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic unveils a new shopping experience at Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique, a Parisian store featured in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Each box includes a list of magical locations across the wizarding world where guests can try their hand at spellcasting.
Universal recently revealed 9 new wands that will be featured in Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique including Dolores Umbridge.

Q: Can you reuse your wand at Universal?
A: Guests can reuse their interactive wand to cast spells at Universal Orlando resort from previous trips at both the Florida and Hollywood Wizarding World of Harry Potter locations. Q: How much is a Harry Potter wand at Universal?
A: In the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are new second generation interactive wands that costs $85, regular interactive wands cost $65 per wand, and regular non-interactive wands are $55 per wand.
Q: Does it cost more for the interactive Harry Potter wand buying experience?
A: Another question we receive is, how much does a wand cost at Ollivander’s for the interactive wand experience? The best part is, it doesn’t cost you any extra! Just like the other experiences guests simply must purchase the cost of the wand. The cool thing about this experience is also that the wand that you select (or the wand that selects you to be correct) is going to be completely unique. This means no other famous Harry Potter characters would have the same wand as you.
Q: Can you get a Universal Harry Potter wand for free?
A: There is a way to get a Harry Potter wand at Universal Orlando for free and this could be a great tip for families who love bringing home theme park merchandise. Universal Orlando is currently giving away a free non-interactive wand for any family who purchase a $300 Universal merchandise card. This card can be used in the parks on your favorite Harry Potter and Universal gear, and you’ll also receive a free wand to take home. It’s important to note that Universal could discontinue this promotion but hopefully you can take advantage of it during your next trip!
Q: How do the Harry Potter Wands Work?
A: The Universal wand is a passive device, meaning there are no electronics inside. Instead, the wand reflects light back to a sensor that tracks the movement of the Universal wand. When a correct spell movement is detected, the system activates the display. In summary, you’ve got wizard powers. Below are the steps to use your new Harry Potter World Wand!
The majority of spell locations are supervised by a helpful spell-caster, who mastered all the best spell-casting techniques and can coach guests to do the same. These cast members are also trained to be friendly and patient with young wizards and witches. These spell-casting helpers are there to make your experience the most magical it can be, so definitely utilize their help! Note that if a sign, spell-caster, or another cast member tells you a spell-casting location is “jinxed,” it means that location is not currently working and you’ll need to move on to the next location.
Q: What is the best wand shop in Universal Orlando?
A: Ollivanders wand shop in Diagon Alley is the best place to purchase an interactive wand (mostly for the experience). This is going to give you the closest experience to the books and movies. Fans can even purchase the exact same replica Harry Potter World wands that their favorite characters used including Harry, Ron, and Hermione! You can even take your Ollivander wand buying experience one step further and participate in an interactive ceremony. During this experience one lucky wizard is chosen to test out different wands as they all come to life just like in the movie!
If you are trying to participate in the interactive wand ceremony we recommend you make sure to be one of the first guests on line for when Ollivanders opens. One of the easiest ways to do this is to take advantage of early park admission at Harry Potter!
A: Is there a secret spell location at Universal Orlando?
Q: Just when you think the magic stops, Diagon Alley secret wand locations keep you on your toes! Some interactive wand secret locations in Orlando include the Universal Studios interactive wand map, where you’re able to illuminate Knockturn Alley’s black light to reveal themselves.
The Magical Menagerie is where you can find your fantastic beasts interactive wand spell. While wandering Weasley’s Wheezes, look up to see fireworks lighting up the night just outside the skylight. These and plenty more are to be discovered.
