So let’s start with the most common question and that is, how many days should I spend in Disneyland when visiting both Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure? And as a general rule of thumb we recommend four days when trying to figure out how many days you should you spend at Disneyland. The main reason is this gives you two days at each Disneyland theme park. As discussed you will most likely need a full two days at Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure is really a day to a day and a half park. So maybe you can see all of Disneyland in three days, however we find that families enjoy themselves so much more when they give themselves the extra day.
As you’ll see below there are also a few different variations that we can look at when deciding how many days you should spend at Disneyland. There will also be factors to consider such as should you book a Disneyland vacation package and possibly spend more time back at the hotel relaxing when you’re not in the theme parks.

So let’s take a look at the second most common question and that is, how many days should you spend at Disneyland park by itself? And as a general rule we recommend at least two full days at Disneyland park. This is especially true if you’re travelling with small children as you will see Disneyland has a total of 58 rides with a large portion of those being geared towards kids. Guests also have to include the newest addition of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge which has some of the most popular rides such as Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. You’ll see that if you break down the 58 rides and say on average you will wait 30 minutes per ride, then it would take you 14 hours per day just to go on every ride that this one park has to offer.
Another reason we strongly suggest two full days when figuring out how many days to plan at Disneyland is the nighttime parade and fireworks. In fact Disneyland has one of the most popular parades in all of the Disney theme parks as well as an amazing fireworks show. So we always suggest to check them out when possible but of course this will take even more time out of your day which could be spent on rides.

Okay, so now that we have covered the main Disneyland park let’s look at the next question which is, how many days for Disneyland California Adventure? And on average we typically suggest to plan one full day when trying to decide how long to spend at Disney’s California Adventure. And in general most families will usually go with two full days so that they don’t feel rushed. Although this theme park does not have as many rides as Disneyland theme park, it does have some of the most popular which makes it complicated. As you’ll see with that popularity comes high wait times for those rides.
How long does California Adventure take?
Another reason why we always suggest to give yourself more time when available is that Disney’s California Adventure also has nighttime shows which you’ll want to check out. And very similar to Disneyland park both World of Color and Fantasmic can take up a decent part of your night which would leave less time for rides.

But what about planning how many days you need at Disneyland including Disney Springs? So this question really all depends on what your plans are in Disney Springs. And in general we do find that if you’re simply looking to take advantage of some of the restaurants than you can easily plan those meals in the four days we suggest above and still have plenty of time to enjoy rides. In fact that’s one of the things we love about Disneyland over Disney World. Both of the Disneyland theme parks and Disney Springs are so close to each other you really have so much flexibility when it comes to planning a great vacation.
However if you plan to spend a full day at Disney Springs enjoying the shops and the restaurants than we suggest planning five days at Disneyland.

Another common question we receive is, can you do Disneyland and California Adventure in 1 day? And in general we believe it’s impossible to see and do everything at Disneyland and California Adventure in one day. This would be true just based on the rides alone, and it doesn’t even include all of the amazing nighttime shows are both theme parks. As a minimum we would suggest giving yourself at least one day at each theme park and as discussed above even this will not allow you to see and do everything Disneyland has to offer. However on the flip side we do believe it will give you enough time to really get a feel for what you enjoy the most at each theme park and you will have an even better plan when you come back for your next trip.

For this next question, we are going to look at how long does it take to explore Disneyland including the two theme parks, Downtown Disney, and also the Disneyland Hotels? Because many guests might not realize that the Disneyland hotels include some of the most popular bars ( We’re looking at you Trader Sams) and restaurants. So in general we would say give yourself five days when trying to explore absolutely everything Disneyland has to offer including all of the amazing sights outside of the theme parks.

So what about if you have Disney Genie+, can you go to both Disneyland parks in one day? And we will start off by saying that the Disney Genie+ does help and it works way better in Disneyland than it does in Walt Disney World. However we would stick with our original answer and as a general rule it’s almost impossible to go to both Disneyland parks in one day to see it all.
