What is the Express Pass at Universal Orlando Resort?

The 2024 Universal Studios Orlando Express Pass is an add-on feature you can choose for your Universal Orlando park tickets.

All of our discount Universal Express Passes allow you to enter a separate line, avoiding those long, winding lines that everyone else is standing in to get onto the ride. It can be a great way to save time and avoid long lines on your next vacation.

Express Pass Pros:

You will save time in the ride queues. There is no guarantee of how much time you’ll save, but you’ll spend less time in line.
It covers the room cost if you stay in a Premier hotel at Universal Orlando with three or more people.
You can ride almost all the main rides in one visit. So, if you’re only visiting for one day, the discount Universal Express Pass is a great way to get you on as many rides as possible.
It’ll prevent you from standing in long, hot outdoor lines in those warm summer months, so you’ll probably feel much better at the park.
Discount Universal Express passes can get you better seating at some shows and performances by allowing you to be one of the first guests to pick your seat.

Express Pass Cons:

It’s pretty expensive if you’re not staying at a Universal Premier Hotel where you get it for free.
Everyone in your party must purchase the add-on if you all want to enjoy it.
On some rides, it causes you to miss some pretty fantastic ride queues that are essential parts of the storytelling of a ride.
Sometimes, the single-rider line is just as fast and costs nothing.

You can purchase the Standard Universal Express Pass (some call the Universal Fast Pass), where you skip the line on most rides (see below) just once. Or you can upgrade and get the Universal Studios Express Unlimited, which gives you unlimited skip-the-line passes for those same rides.

How long are waits with the Universal Express Pass?

One of the most important questions we receive from our client’s whey they are trying to decide if the Universal express pass is worth it; how long are the waits with the Universal Express Pass?

As a general rule of thumb, when Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure are busy, there will still be a wait even with the Universal Express Pass. On Average, that wait will be between 10-15 minutes using the Universal Express Pass. This waiting period is still significantly shorter than the regular standby line.

How Does the Universal Express Pass Work?

When you purchase an express pass, you will be given a separate ticket to show as you enter each line. The park attendant will scan that pass and let you into the Express line. You’ll have that pass rechecked for rides with longer, more in-depth lines as you approach the ride.

If you are staying at one of the universal hotels that offer express passes, you will do the same, except that it will be with your hotel room key you use to get on each ride, so make sure everyone in your group has a hotel room key.

How Do You Purchase a Universal Express Pass?

You can buy your discount Universal Express Passes at the same time you purchase your Universal tickets online from theparkprodigy.com or any time before your park visit starts or even as you enter the park.

You can purchase them for just one or both parks directly from Universal. What is nice about this option is that you can wait until you’re at the park to see how crowded it is to help you determine if you’ll need an express pass while visiting.

Types of Discount Universal Express Passes

When buying discount Universal Express Passes, the most important factor is to consider how many days you would like to use the express pass. On top of that, which park or parks do you want to use the express passes at? The main reason is Universal Orlando sells one-day express passes for Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay individually. However, they also sell park-to-park express passes for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

The last question you’ll have to ask yourself is how many times you would like to go on each ride. Is one time per ride enough with the regular express pass, or would you prefer to go on each ride as many times as you would like with the unlimited express pass?

The most significant benefit to this type of Universal Express Pass is it will typically always be the cheapest Express Pass, especially when compared to just one day in the theme parks. This is especially true if you only want to purchase the express pass for one of the Universal Orlando theme parks instead of the park-to-park variety.

From our experience, we also find this to be a great fit for families who have never been to Universal Orlando and are only visiting for one or two days. This will give you a feel for which rides you enjoy and get onto every attraction at least once.

Universal Orlando Express Passes - One Time Per Ride Cons

The biggest con with the regular Universal Express Pass is that it’s never included in the Universal Orlando ticket + Universal Express Pass deals on this page or provided for free by staying at one of the Universal Orlando premier hotels. For this reason, if you plan to use the Universal Express Pass for more than one day, you should almost always consider upgrading to the Universal Orlando Unlimited Express pass through the ticket + Universal Express Pass deals on this page or by staying at one of the premier resorts.

The Universal Orlando unlimited express pass will allow guests to experience participating attractions as often as they would like within the day. We find this a great fit for families who have been to Universal Orlando before and are familiar with the rides they would like to go on.

The Universal Orlando Unlimited Express Pass will almost always be the best deal for families looking to use express pass tickets for more than one day. The reason is that the Universal Orlando ticket + Universal Express Pass deals will allow you to save when compared to buying express passes one day at a time, include the unlimited express pass tickets. From our experience helping our clients, these can offer tremendous savings compared to buying admission tickets and express passes separately.

Universal Orlando Unlimited Express Pass Cons

Individual Universal Orlando Express Pass tickets do not come in age tiers.

Express pass ticket prices will fluctuate based on the time and day you visit. You will also have to purchase an express pass for each day you plan on using these fantastic benefits.

You will find the best discounts for Universal Studios Orlando Express Passes will be if you visit during weekdays in the off-season, which are typically found in early spring and fall.

You will have difficulty finding Universal Studios Orlando Florida discount Express Passes if you visit during weekdays, school breaks, and holidays.

You must use your Universal Studios express pass on the date printed on your ticket, and you cannot transfer this ticket to another date.

How Much Does it Cost to Add Express Pass to Universal Tickets?

Individual Universal Express pass prices start at $89.99 for the regular passes, and $119.99 for the Universal Studios Orlando Unlimited. However as a general rule of thumb that is almost never where most guests will actually buy their pass. The main reason being is the costs of express passes at Universal will always fluctuate based on the time of year you visit. On average we have seen the unlimited express pass right around $150-$175 per day per person.
