Best Strategy To Early Park Admission at Epic Universe

This article is your complete guide to the best strategy for early park admission at Epic Universe! Our quick advice for a majority of families focused on getting on the most attractions throughout the day would be: arrive at the park a full hour before early park admission even starts, head straight to Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, and save most of Super Nintendo World for the evening. The wait-time data backs this up, and we’ll show you exactly why below.

We hope you find this post helpful! The Basics for Early Park Admission at Epic Universe

Early park admission at Epic Universe gives select guests an advantage to enter the park 60 minutes before the regular opening time. What we find is that extra hour can make a huge difference between getting on every ride within the day or not. With the main reason is Universal has some of the most popular rides open for that extra hour, such as attractions within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. As you will see below there actually are a few different strategies that you will want to be familiar with depending on your goals and if you have the Universal Express Pass.

Here’s the core of how it works:

  • One hour early. On a typical 9 AM opening, EPA guests are let in around 8 AM. (We’ve occasionally seen it start a few minutes earlier which is why we love arriving an hour before to be some of the first guests in the park.
  • Select attractions only on certain days. Only a select few lands are typically open for EPA and be sure to check the official Universal Orlando app to see which days will be open.

What Rides Are Open During Early Park Admission? (Current Roster)

Last verified: 6/16/2026

As of now, Early Park Admission spans three lands:

Land Attractions typically available during EPA
Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
Super Nintendo World Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Donkey Kong Mine-Cart Madness, Yoshi’s Adventure
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Dragon Racer’s Rally, Viking Training Camp, Toothless Meet & Greet

What’s NOT in EPA right now: Dark Universe and Celestial Park. What’s so interesting about this is that this is actually the exact opposite of how Epic Universe opened up in 2025. However we have seen early park admission at Epic Universe change three different times in 2026 already so we always recomend to be sure to keep an eye on park hours and which rides are going to be open as you get closer to your trip.

Early Park Admission Strategy When Trying to Get on the Most Rides: Battle at the Ministry First

ministry-of-magic

As a general rule of thumb, we almost always lean towards starting your early park admission morning at Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. This is because this ride has the longest average wait time in the park, and we see the benefit of getting it out of the way first thing. Especially if going on every attraction is your top priority. With the strategy below you can be on and off your first ride within the first hour and a half and then head over to the Isle of Berk for either the Toothless meet and greet or Hiccups Wing Gliders. If you find that Battle at the Ministry takes you over an hour I would then head straight over to Dark Universe directly after.

The core play

1. Be at the gate a full hour before the normal park opening. This sounds obvious, but it’s the step most people get wrong. EPA “starting at 8” doesn’t mean show up at 8 — it means you want to be some of the first guests in the park at that time. If you stroll up at exactly early park admission starting time, you’re already behind a wall of people. Aim to be through Security and in position a full 60 minutes early. We find that the Universal Orlando shuttles also start to run 15 minutes before their posted time as well.

2. Go straight to Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Don’t get distracted by the rides right in front of you in Celestial Park. Battle at the Ministry is the most in-demand attraction in the entire park, and EPA is realistically the only way to ride it without surrendering two hours of your day. Below is the average wait times throughout the day:

Time Battle at the Ministry wait (min)
Park open (~9 AM) 131
10 AM 155 (daily peak)
Noon 131
3 PM 140
6 PM 114
8 PM 76
9 PM 50

It opens at over two hours and peaks at 155 minutes by mid-morning. It never meaningfully calms down until the very end of the night. We have also found that the risk of leaving it towards the end of the night is that the queue can reach capacity which means you might not even be given the opportunity to get on line. Ride it during your EPA hour and you’ve knocked out the hardest ride in the park before the day even starts.

3. Save Super Nintendo World for the evening. This is the counterintuitive move that the data makes obvious. Most guests sprint to Mario Kart at rope drop — which is exactly why you shouldn’t. Watch what happens to those waits as the night goes on:

Ride 11 AM peak 8 PM 9 PM
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge 128 44 27
Yoshi’s Adventure 66 18 12
Mine-Cart Madness 113 81 79

The Backup Plan: When You Have the Universal Express Pass or Battle Isn’t the Priority

wing-gliders

Two situations call for a Plan B, and you should walk in with it ready:

Situation 1 — You have the Universal Express Pass.

Situation 2 — Battle isn’t your family’s priority, and the Toothless Meet and Greet is

In either case, point your EPA hour at How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and specifically the Toothless Meet & Greet. Here’s why this is smarter than it looks:

  • The Toothless Meet & Greet does not accept Express Pass. That’s the whole insight. Almost every other major experience in the park can be skipped-the-line with Express — but not this one. This meet and greet consistanly has a 90 minute average wait later in the day and this is one of the only ways to get it out of the way with a little wait.
  • Isle of Berk opens soft in the morning. Hiccup’s Wing Gliders starts the day around 22 minutes and Dragon Racers Rally is the other attraction which does not take the Universal Express Pass which you might want to get out of the way early.

That makes the Toothless Meet & Greet the single best EPA play for Express Pass holders. If you’ve already bought Express Passes, you’ve effectively pre-paid your way past the standby lines on the rides — so spend your free EPA hour on the one headline experience Express can’t help you with. We would hit Dragon Racers Rally right after as that is the only real ride that is not included with the Epic Universe Express Pass at this time!

Should Your Early Park Admission Strategy Change if Staying at Helios Grand Hotel?

One of the most popular Universal Orlando hotels right now is Helios Grand Hotel which actually gives you your own private entrance directly into Epic Universe. Although we would not really change either of the strategies above based on staying here we would say it absolutely gives guests a head start into Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Another great option for you to keep an eye on if easy access to Epic Universe is important to you would be Stella Nova which has a 10 minute walking path to Epic.

The older Universal hotels (Hard Rock, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific, Sapphire Falls, Cabana Bay, Aventura, Endless Summer) all get EPA too, but they’re on the original campus about 1.5 miles away. Plan 15-20 minute shuttle ride early in the morning but like we discussed a lot of times they do pick guests up a bit early making it possible to be at the parks a full 60 minutes before. Frequently Asked Questions

f-a-q

Is Early Park Admission Worth it at Epic Universe? Short answer: yes, if you use it correctly. We have found that it really can mean the different between getting on every ride or not. By hitting Battle at the Ministry first thing in the morning you can save up to two hours later in the day and 90 minutes when used at the Tootless Meet and Greet.

What rides are open during Early Park Admission at Epic Universe? Currently select attractions across Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. The exact list changes frequently — always verify on Universal’s site and the signage at Security the morning of your visit.

Which ride should I do first during EPA? We recommend Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry — it has the highest waits in the park all day and EPA is the only realistic way to ride it without a 2+ hour line. If it’s down or not a priority, pivot to the Toothless Meet & Greet in Isle of Berk.
